This is My Father’s World

A hymn a day keeps the devil away.

Just kidding.

And I’m not going to post a hymn everyday; that would be annoying.  But I’ve decided it might be interesting to occasionally post an old hymn that I have found particularly meaningful or relevant at certain times.  Here’s one I’ve been humming for the last week:

This is my Fathers world
And to my listening ears,
All nature sings and round me rings
The music of the spheres.

This is my Fathers world,
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas,
His hand, the wonders wrought.

This is my Fathers world,
The birds, their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white
Declare their makers praise.

This is my Fathers world,
He shines in all that’s fair.
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass,
He speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Fathers world,
Oh let me neer forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong,
God is the ruler yet.

This is my Fathers world,
The battle is not done.
Jesus, who died, shall be satisfied
And earth and heaven be one

Chew on some of that theology for a while.

A favorite of mine, too. Great eschatology in that final verse!

Love it. Also love your “that would be annoying.” A classic Jared-ism. 🙂

  3. Thanks Jared… I love old hymns. So much.

I’ve been singing a “not-so-old” worship song by Christ for the Nations the last while… it reminded me of that hymn (with less deep thoughts, and more simplicity…) Our Fathers world… the flowers bloom for Him. The ocean continues to crash and the mountains stay majestic, whether we are here to enjoy it or not… they desire to show Him His beauty… the rocks truly do cry out. Amazing… Alaska is no exception, and I think you and Cait need to come up with your fam soon and see for yourself!

“Look at the way the flowers bloom for You
They want to show You their beauty Lord
Running waters dance, You and I romance

Unto You be all the glory.
Unto You be all the glory

    The angels dance around You
The earth it sings about You
    Open up the heavens Lord
Let Your Kingdom come to earth”
